SHOULD YOU MAKE YOUR MAKEUP PERMANENT?

No matter how much you love your makeup, applying cosmetics to your face on a daily basis takes time. With so many of us rushing to get out the door each morning, one solution to save makeup time is permanent makeup. Permanent makeup can mimic the look of lipstick, lip liner, eyeliner  and eyebrow pencil.  Much like a tattoo, permanent makeup is applied through a procedure called micropigmentation.  Imagine swimming , bathing and sleeping with perfect eyeliner and lip liner.

In additon to saving you time, permanent makeup works well for those of you with sensitive skin. Many ingredients in products cause redness, swelling or allergy related skin conditions. With permanent makeup, once the ink/makeup is applied, the results of an allergic reaction are minimal.  Remember though, the area where you’ve applied durable makeup may swell for a few days once the procedure is completed.

For as beautiful and convenient as permanent makeup may be, there are some drawbacks. Although the areas will be numbed with a local anesthetic during the actual procedure, you may be prone to an infection. Unsterile equipment and needles can pass on infections such as hepatitis or staph bacteria.  Another complication is the possibility of developing scar tissue.  Only you can decide if the rewards of makeup outweigh the risks.

The price of permanent makeup procedures should also be considered. Depending on what you’re having done, the costs can range from $300 to $1,000 and up. You’ll need to gauge this against the cost of purchasing your cosmetics. Buying many tubes of lipsticks and lipliners, as well as eyeliners and eyebrow pencils, will definitely add up over time.

It does sound wonderful to wake up everyday with much of your makeup ready to go! For those of you thinking of investing in permanent makeup, the decision is yours. Keep in mind that if you do go forward with permanent, then decide it is no longer right for you, the removal process can be costly and painful. Much like removing a tattoo that sounded like a great idea at the time.

The question to ask yourself before going forward  with a makeup procedure is should you make your makeup permanent?
