Platform shoes are indeed a shoe lover’s paradise. Platform shoes, also known as disco boots, triangle heels or platforms are shoes, boots or sandals with thick soles. A true platform shoe differs from a wedge shoe. With a platform shoe, the entire sole of the shoe doesn’t run from the toes to the heel (like a straight board or wedge shoe does) but instead, the shoe is raised off of the ground by a platform that stops at the arch of the foot, and then the shoe has a separate heel.
As someone who loves fashion, I place platform shoes into two categories. There are elegant platform shoes, and there are clunky platform shoes. Elegant platforms can have a high platform base, yet the heel is sleek and sexy, much like a stiletto. On a clunky platform shoe, the heel is quite thick. Both types of platforms have their place in fashion, yet for this particular blog post, I am only concentrating on elegant, sleek, stilt heel platform shoes.
Let’s get real. A breathtaking shoe is all in the heel.
Not only are platform shoes pretty and attractive to look at, but the stylish footwear elongates the leg and shows off the definition of your calf muscles as you walk. Platform shoes add glamour to your gait.
The soles and heels of platform shoes are often made of plastic, rubber, cork or wood. In addition to looking knock-out on your feet, platform shoes can add inches to your height, if so desired.
I’m sure you’ve all seen someone (maybe even yourself) who has worn the ever popular lucite platform shoe (clear sole/heel) and worn them well.
Platform shoes are thought to have been worn in Europe in the eighteenth century to avoid the muck of urban streets. Of this same practical origin are Japanese geta. The Ancient Romans frequently had thick soles to give added height to the wearer. Why not wear platform shoes today to state your fashion confidence, and walk your way into platform paradise?
Who can deny that this platform shoe is not alluring, feminine and powerful?
This shoe is glamorous and beautiful!
Platform shoes enjoyed popularity in the Unites States, Europe and the United Kingdom from the 1930s to the 1950s, but it was during the 1960s to the 1980s that platform shoes stepped out to the top of the platform. Many glam rock bands and heavy metal performers strutted the stage in platform shoes.
Platform shoes scream the wow factor.
Platform soles can either be on display for the eye to see, or wrapped in the fabric of the shoe, adding to the illusion that the shoe is not elevated by a platform. Either way, platform shoes add punch and pizzazz to any outfit.
Platform shoes with spiked heels add sophistication, charm and confidence to any ensemble that you are wearing. Shoes make for a great signature trade mark!
Platform Shoe Fun Fact: This is my own opinion, but as an avid fashion junkie, I love platform shoes with flared or bell-bottom pants or jeans. However, with skinny jeans or straight-legged jeans, I feel that a stylish pump, or a shoe with a thinner sole looks better. With a flared leg, a portion of the bottom of the pants drapes over the shoe, much like a blanket, and this image looks exceptionally beautiful. When the entire shoe is exposed, I feel a standard pump looks more regal and elegant.
But, fashion is fashion, and fashion is fun, and if you want to rock a pair of platform shoes with your straight-legged pants or your painted-on skinny jeans, then by all means, rock it! It’s far more important that you feel good and gorgeous in your own skin, with your own unique style, than wearing something that you have been told is in vogue, or is the latest fad. The best style is your own comfortable, recognizable, original style.
Don’t follow fads…but go fashion forward.
Strut proudly in your platform shoes.
Platform Shoe Fun Fact: Platform shoes make your feet look smaller, as your foot tends to raise off of the ground as you walk, making your foot look more delicate than when you are standing flat-footed.
Step into sheer platform elegance when you slide your princess toes into the prestigious shoe that is the platform.
Platform Shoe Fun Fact: Elton John has a large collection of platform shoes (with clunkier heels), many of which have been sold at auction for charity. The UK band, the Spice Girls, performed in platform shoes, and Lady Gaga wears platform shoes out in public, as well as during concerts and performances.
Platform shoes add a pinch of punch and mounds of magnificent leg muscle to any body! Platform shoes truly are a shoe lover’s paradise. Allow the platform shoe to give your mind and your mood a lift…literally.
Pump up the volume in platform shoes!
