Love them or hate them, tight fitted, straight legged pants can cause a fashionable frenzied phenom rant.
Slim-fit pants (or skinny jeans when made of denim) have a snug fit through the legs and end in a small leg opening that can be anywhere from 9 inches to 20 inches depending on the size. In some styles, zippers are needed at the bottom of the leg to facilitate pulling them over the feet. Stretch denim, with anywhere from 2% to 4% spandex, may be used to have a super-slim fit.
A true skinny jean fits the above definition, but for the sake of this blog post, I am going to cover tight, straight-legged pants as a group. Other names for slim-fit pants include drainpipes, stovepipes. tight pants, cigarette pants, pencil pants and skinny pants.
Slim-fit, straight legged pants look great in both high waisted and hip hugger cuts. A positive fashion note on straight legged pants is that the entire shoe is shown off, as the hem of the legs don’t cover the shoes. Therefore, whatever your shoe preference (flats, boots, stilettos, pumps, wedges), the shoe is on full display and highlights the straight legged pants to exquisite fashion style.
Skinny Jean Fashion Fact: In addition to denim, skinny jeans can be found in most all colors, and many times the pant material contains spandex, which makes the pants easier to take on and off, and allows the fabric to cling to the body. Many skinny jeans and straight legged pants have bottoms that actually hug the ankles.

Straight Legged Pants Fun Fact: Before the 18th century, European men wore breeches and hosen. In Tudor times, these breeches were loose fitting, but by the 1660s, tight breeches were fashionable. These were popularized by Frenchmen at the court of Louis XIII, as part of the three piece suit that also included a type of frock coat called a Justacorps, a tricorne hat, a powdered wig and a long waistcoat. During the Restoration era, the tighter breeches were introduced to England, and the rest of Europe, because the cut was deemed flattering to the leg.
