The fashion industry is filled with exciting events such as fashion weeks in LA, New York, and Paris, in recent years. What was once a bi-annual explosion of fashion collection has turned into an annual, much-anticipated staple in the industry. This is great news for fashionistas! Where once both seasoned and new designers displayed their collections for Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter twice yearly at Fashion Week, fashion fans can now get their fix on all year. While many notable events are held around the world, the “Big Four” takes place in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, in that order.
In January, fashionistas everywhere are treated to Pre-Fall collection shows, which are becoming a firm fixture on the fashion calendar. While brands put on shows, they aren’t the scaled-up extravaganzas like big fashion houses such as Gucci or Channel put on during Fashion Week. Pre-Fall is a chance to make an extra impact during the changeover from Spring/Summer to Fall/Winter, ensuring a commercial opportunity for brands and consumers throughout the year.
The months of February and March welcome in designers’ Fall/Winter collections for the current year. Fashion Week lasts approximately one week in each of the four major fashion cities (New York, London, Milan, Paris) and designers display their latest fashion lines to buyers, the media and the public. Shows started to feature garments that are available for sale immediately, online or in stores. Notable designers consist of Tom Ford, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Donatella Versace and Dolce and Gabbana.
The month of May hooks fashionistas with the Resort collection shows. These shows display a line of inter-season or pre-season, ready-to-wear clothing produced by a fashion house or fashion brand. These shows are targeted at customers who are looking ahead to buying warm-weather designs suitable for summer and/or upcoming vacations. These clothing designs start appearing in stores in November. High fashion houses like Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani and Prada oftentimes also present Resort collections in their Fall/Winter fashion shows.
For more of your fashionista fix, the month of July offers Couture collection shows. Couture is a high-end fashion that is constructed by hand from start to finish, made from high-quality, expensive, often unusual fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail. The word couture refers to dressmaking, fashion, sewing and needlework. A true haute couture garment is made for an original client and tailored specifically for the wearer’s measurements and body stance. Couture garments truly are “tailor-made.”
A typical year in the fashion industry wraps up in September and October’s Fashion Week, where designers present their Spring/Summer collections for the upcoming year. In addition to buyers, designers and the public feasting their eyes on the gorgeous warm weather clothing lines, Fashion Week has become a highly anticipated social event, influencing trends and fads for the upcoming season. For all fashionistas who truly adore dress and style, Fashion Week is pure joy! The events are so festive, colorful and fun, do glamour gals and guys need a reason to attend? Designers, models, celebrities, buyers and more pack the fashion houses. Truly haute couture!
The fashion industry is a business revered worldwide, mixing clothing, creativity, style, and glamour. You wear the clothing, displaying your own unique signature and style.
Fashion week is never enough! Fashionistas need their fashion fix all year round! Dress in your favorite fashion week clothing and paint the town!
