Shoes, shoes and more shoes! Can a gal ever have enough shoes? Whether you prefer heels, flats, tennis shoes, boots, moccasins, wedges, clogs, oxfords, thongs or many more, if you don’t own a pair already, may I suggest the platform shoe?

Platform shoes, also known as disco boots, elevator shoes, triangle heels or simply platforms, are shoes, boots or sandals with thick soles. The soles are often made of cork, plastic, rubber or wood, and tend to run anywhere from 1 inch to 8 inches in height!

Fashion Tip: With a platform pump, since the raised sole can tend to look bulky, a platform pump looks more feminine with a skinny, sleek high heel. This is merely my fashion opinion. I know some people prefer a bulkier heel, and that is just dandy too.

So you love the elegant, gorgeous look of platforms shoes, yet feel that even walking in a one to two inch heel is too much for you? Then definitely try the platform shoe. Generally, the raised sole makes the bottom of the shoe more flat when you walk, as opposed to a regular pump where your heel is much higher off the ground than the ball of your foot. Therefore, with a platform, it is much the same feel as walking with a bare foot or in a flat shoe.

Platform Shoes Fun Fact: The biggest platform shoe fad in history began in the late 1960s and continued well into the 1980s. At the beginning of the fad, the platform was worn primarily by women in their teens and twenties, and then branched out to women of all ages, as well as men (think the disco era)! At this time, many glam rock musicians wore platform shoes as part of their act! Glam bands were the bomb (that is my personal opinion tossed in here)! I always liked the pretty boy, made up look.
A platform shoe will always attract. That is a fierce fashion fact.
Platform Shoes Fun Fact: The manufacturer Candie’s stretched the envelope of what was considered too outrageous to wear when it came to the platform shoe! Candie’s became a popular platform pump to prance around in.
