If there’s one thing to be sure of in the world of fashion, it’s that sheer clothing elicits a blend of regal and risqué. Sheer fabric is fabric which is made using thin thread and/or a low density of knit, which results in a semi-transparent and flimsy cloth. Some sheer fabrics become transparent (see-through) when wet.
Sheer fabric is used in clothing, in garments such as stockings or tights and in dancewear and lingerie. Sheer garments are also popular in blouses, dresses and evening gowns. Leaving much to the eye and little to the imagination, sheer clothing offers sheer style delight.
The sheerness of a fabric is expressed as a numerical denier which ranges from 3 (extremely rare, very thin, barely visible) to 15 (standard sheer for stockings), up to 30 (semi-opaque). The materials which can be made translucent include gossamer, silk, rayon and/or nylon. Sheer fabric comes in a variety of colors and is sometimes embellished with embroidered patterns or designs.
Sheer Fabric Fun Fact: Sheer stockings became popular in the 1920s, and sheer materials have been used in women’s nightwear for some time. There has been a predominate “sheer fashion trend” in fashion circles since 2008, with sheer fabrics being used in tight clothes and in delicate feminine clothing.
Sheer eye-catching elegance!
Peek-a-boo. I see you!
Sheer, or see-through clothing, looks lovely when made with lace, mesh or sheer material that allows the wearer’s body or undergarments to be seen through the fabric. Mesh, web or net fabric may have many connected or woven pieces with a large number of closely spaced holes, frequently used for modern sports jerseys.
Sheer Fabric Fun Fact: Sheer fabrics, particularly in skin tone (called nude) colors are sometimes called illusion, as in “illusion bodice” (or sleeve) due to giving the impression of exposed flesh.
Naughty nude without being naked!
The trend for sheer fashions was encouraged in the late 1980s by the manipulation of the television soap series Dynasty and Dallas. Celebrities like Brooke Shields and Cindy Crawford were major contributors in this regard. Demi Moore caused a huge buzz in the fashion and fame industry in her movie Striptease. Her see-through lingerie was considered as one of the best on-screen see-through appearances of all time.
Time to fashion down in sensual, see-through, sheer clothing!
Do you love the look of sheer fabrics but are too modest to wear them? Sheer clothing worn over tank tops, spaghetti straps, etc. look luscious and lethal. A mix of feminine wiles and practical pretty.
Sheer Fabric Fun Fact: A see-through dress worn by Kate Middleton to a charity fashion show in 2002 was sold at an auction on March 17, 2011 for $127,500. See how elegant and stylish you can be when dressed in see-through fabrics for the world to see.
Sheer clothing comes in a variety of styles, such as blouses, evening gowns, maxi dresses, dresses, skirts. Do you want to be a subtle flirt? Dress in stylish jeans and a nude tank top, covered with a sheer, feminine nude-colored lace shirt. Top off with gold jewelry and camel-toned high heels!
As is the case with most clothing, sheer fabrics can be appropriate for both day and evening wear, depending on what garments and accessories you mix and match together! The office? Try a sheer blouse covered with a business blazer. Evening wear? How about a gown where you show some leg, covered my mesh or lace.
Sheer clothing equals ultimate sexy mixed with great fashion taste! Show off your waist, literally.
Sheer clothing: sheer delight, sheer splendor, sheer chic!
Sheer clothing: Sheer gorgeous glamour!
