Give me a head with hair! Long, short, thick, thin, blond, red, brunette or black, when it comes to our hair we truly do care. Even bald is beautiful: your head, your choice.
One reason our hair is so fun and important to us is that we can change it to suit our mood. By cutting, styling, and coloring our hair, we can show our personality to the world while also altering our appearance. One trendy, popular, always in fashion way to style your hair is with the beautiful braid. For the most basic type of braid, a complex, woven structure or pattern is formed by interlacing three or more strands of hair. This flat, solid, three strand structured hair braid is the easiest and most common type of braid. For a more unique, elegant, glamorous braid, I recommend the fishtail braid.
Other popular types of braids include the five stranded braid, rope braid, French braid, waterfall braid, and cornrows.
The look of the fishtail braid is so original and glamorous, yet sporty, that the braid is an ideal way to wear your hair whether you’re going dancing on a dress up night on the town, or merely spending the day boating on an open lake or ocean, fishing the day away!
In addition to wearing your fishtail braids straight down, doing fun experiments with the braids, such as placing them over your head, or adding colored highlights to your hair, adds to the electrifying vibration of the fishtail braid. It’s no surprise the fishtail braid got its name because the braid resembles the scale look of a fishtail.
How to Make the Fishtail Braid:
- Divide your hair into two sections, parting the hair straight down the middle (make a right and left section).
- Pull a thin strand of hair from the outside of the left section. Now pull this same strand of hair over the top of the left section, and grasp the same strand of hair under the right section (the strand of hair has gone over the left section and finishes under the right section). Try to use the same thickness of hair for each strand throughout the braid or the braid may look uneven.
- Repeat step two, in the opposite way, going from the right section to the left section. Pull a strand of hair from the outside of the right section, pull the strand over the right section, and then weave the same strand of hair under the left section.
- Keep alternating this same movement with the hair strands (left to right, right to left, left to right, right to left…over and under, over and under) until you reach the bottom of the braid.
- Tie the end of the braid with a hair bobble or an elastic band to ensure that the braid doesn’t unravel.
- Place a cute ribbon, bow or hair accessory charm over the elastic band to add your own signature personality to the braid.
That’s an absolutely glorious fishtail braid!
If you complete the fishtail braid and the braid is too tight, there is no need to undo the entire braid and start over. Use your fingers to massage into the strands and the braid will loosen. Don’t massage too harshly or you will frizz out the strands.
The fishtail braid is a winning hairstyle that is definitely here to stay!
The fishtail braid always makes for a good hair day!
