Named the T-shirt dress due to the shape of the garment’s outline, resembling the letter T, the T-shirt dress has caught on as the dress is easily fitted, easily cleaned, inexpensive and stylish. And did I mention comfortable? Yes I did, but I’ll say it again. When wearing a T-shirt dress, the wearer feels fashionable and modern, while comfy and cozy at the same time.

T-shirt dresses are normally associated with short sleeves, a round neckline, and no collar.

There are T-shirt dresses that consist of long sleeves, buttons, collars and V-necks. T-shirt dresses are typically made of cotton fibers, knitted together in a jersey stitch that gives a T-shirt dress its distinctive soft texture. However, there are certain T-shirt dresses that are made of lace, etc., but fit the mold of the T-shirt dress merely by the cut of the garment.

The majority of T-shirt dresses have a body that is made from a continuously woven tube, so the torso has no side seams. This is accomplished with special weaving machines called circular looms, which produce seamless fabric for tube tops, stockings, etc. Conventional stitching is used for the waist band, neck band, sleeves and to close the shoulders.

T-shirt Fun Fact: T-shirts were originally worn as undershirts in the 19th century. Now T-shirts are frequently worn as the only piece of clothing on the top half of the body. The T-shirt dress evolved from this fashion statement, and you can find the T-shirt dress in various lengths, from mini to maxi.

Most T-shirt dresses slip on over the head and shoulders without buttons or zippers. The cotton material stretches and allows the garment to pull on and off easily. T-shirt dresses, when worn with feminine accessories and high heels, look exceptionally fashionable, due to the popularity and comfort of the casual dress, classing the outfit up with fancier jewelry, shoes and handbags.

Since the 1980s, T-shirts have flourished as a form of personal expression. Why not express yourself and your unique personality through your T-shirt dress? From happy faces, to Mickey Mouse, to phrases and expressions, T-shirt dresses can allow you to make a statement.
