THE UNIVERSAL POWER AND MEANING OF FASHION!

THE UNIVERSAL POWER AND MEANING OF FASHION!

The term ‘fashion’ is a universal word, known and admired around the world. But what exactly constitutes fashion? Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, hairstyle and body. Fashion is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which a person dresses. Because the more technical term ‘costume’ is regularly linked to ‘fashion’, the use of the term costume has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while fashion generally means clothing.

Although aspects of fashion can be masculine or feminine, some fashion trends are androgynous (worn by both males and females). Be it haute couture (high fashion) or casual attire, fashion is a word that excites and inspires!

Fashion: A passion for fashion means you have an innate, hungry, yearning eye and desire for fabulous clothing garments.

Style: The signature way that you mix and match the fashion pieces together, and the way you move in the garments.

Fashion Fun Fact: The notion of a global fashion industry is a product of the modern age. Prior to the mid-19th century, most clothing was custom made. Clothing was handmade for individuals, either as home production or on order from dressmakers and tailors. By the beginning of the 20th century, with the rise of new technologies such as the sewing machine, and the rise of global capitalism and the development of the factory system of production, and the proliferation of retail outlets such as department stores, clothing came to be mass-produced in standard sizes and sold at fixed prices.

Ah, the true meaning behind the phrase “passion for fashion!”

The Fashion Industry Consists of Four Levels:

  1. The production of raw materials, principally fibers and textiles, but also leather and fur.
  2. The production of fashion goods by designers, manufacturers, contractors and others.
  3. Retail sales.
  4. Various forms of advertising and promotion.

These four levels consist of many separate but interdependent sectors.

Fashion Fun Fact: The media plays a significant role when it comes to fashion. An important part of fashion is fashion journalism. Editorial critique, guidelines and fashion commentary can be found on television, in magazines, in newspapers, fashion websites, social media sites, social networks and fashion blogs. In recent years, fashion blogging and YouTube videos have become a major outlet for spreading fashion trends and tips, creating an online culture of sharing one’s style on a website, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account.
