Get the Skinny on Skinny Jeans!

Skinny jeans – love them or hate them, skinny jeans aren’t going anywhere, except perhaps in your closet or on your body!
Skinny jeans can have many definitions, and they can be defined as extremely tight fitting jeans that have a tapered leg, and are made of denim.  Skinny jeans, also referred to as slim-fit pants, have a snug fit through the legs and end in a small leg opening that can be anywhere from 9 inches to 20 inches, depending on the size of the pants.
Here is a picture of me wearing what some would call skinny jeans, but I merely label them as straight legged, tight fitted jeans!

Other names for the skinny jean style of pants are drainpipes, stovepipes, tight pants, cigarette pants, pencil pants and skinnies.
In addition to denim, skinny jeans can be found in most all colors, and many times the pants material contains some spandex (2% to 4%), which makes the pants easier to put on and take off, and allows the fabric to cling to the body. Some skinny jeans have bottoms that actually hug the ankles.

The myth that skinny jeans can only be worn on skinny people is just that, a myth. The term “skinny” refers to the cut of the pants, as the pants fit straight up and down. Stretch skinny jeans work real well for expanding and fitting various body types.
Skinny jeans are ideal for tucking into boots, as the bottom of the pants fit tight, allowing the pant legs to stay snug in the boot, and not slink up and out!

Skinny Jeans Fun Fact: In some styles, zippers are needed at the bottom of the legs to facilitate pulling the pants over the feet. I think skinny jeans with zippers near the feet are adorable!
Skinny jeans can be both sweet and sour: sour to put on (sometimes slinking yourself into super tight skinny jeans can be quite an ordeal) and sweet, because, once they are on, you look as scrumptious as fresh peach pie!

Skinny Jeans Tip: If you love skinny jeans, but don’t feel comfortable with the jeans hugging your hips, wearing long shirts that drape to your thighs (similar to shirts worn with leggings) makes for a great, stylish, classy look!
Since the 1950s, skinny jeans have come in and out of style. In contrast to the bell-bottoms that were huge in the 1970s, many punk rockers and glam band artists continued to wear tight, drainpipe and skinny jeans (think Poison, Motley Crue, and let’s not forget Jon Bon Jovi in his skin-tight snug, leather pants and tight jeans)!
In the 1980s, skin-tight, acid wash jeans were popular, and a favorite of some heavy metal bands, such as Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer.
In fashion, skinny jeans are always acceptable!

Skinny Jeans Not So Fun Fact: The tapered leg of the skinny jean can make medium sized hips look fairly large, and larger hips look big. Once again, if you feel uncomfortable in this area, wearing the skinny jeans with long sweaters, blazers, etc. not only looks gorgeous, but you’ll feel glam and gorgeous when dressed this way!

Skinny jeans look great in both high waisted an low waisted cuts. Also, depending on where you are going or what accessories that you are wearing, the pants highlight all types of shoes well, from 6 inch heels to sandals to flip flops!
Skinny Jeans Not So Fun Fact:  Some physicians believe that tight trousers may cause numbness due to compression of nerves. Also, a recent study by Korean doctors suggests that skinny jeans can cause Varicose veins!
Nobody ever claimed that fashion isn’t risky, so take risks wearing pants shaped as thin as sticks, if you feel compelled to do so!
