Leather and lace, in some ways, the two opposites go together. Leather would take on the masculine form, while lace is definitely more feminine. However, in fashion, there are times when the leather dress clearly knocks lace completely out of the park!
In high fashion, leather clothes and accessories can be found in most every item available. There are leather jackets, skirts, dresses, pants, shoes, purses, earrings, etc. One thing is certain with leather clothing: it always makes a statement.
For the purpose of this blog post, I am going to highlight only leather, one-piece dresses. Leather skirts are always frisky and fashionable, but so are form fitting, slinky, tough leather dresses!
Leather is a durable and flexible material created by the tanning of animal rawhide and skin, often cattle hide. Leather is produced through manufacturing processes ranging from cottage industry to heavy industry.
Today most leather is made of cattle skin, but deer skin and lamb skin is used for soft leather in more expensive apparel. Buffalo, goats, alligators, snakes, ostriches, kangaroos, oxen and yak may also be used to make leather.
In addition to being sexy, leather dresses signify chic, stylish fashion and confidence with the wearer.
Leather Fashion Fun Fact: Many pseudo-leather materials have been developed, allowing those who prefer to wear leather-type garments do just that, without actually wearing real leather from animals. Vinyl materials, NuSuede, pleather and Hydrolite are alternatives to wearing clothing made from actual animal leather.
When wearing leather dresses, all colors work! However, if you choose to strut yourself in a leather dress, and you hope to get the full feel of how sexy and edgy leather dresses come across, the perfect shade of lip is red! And not red, blotted lipstick, but gooey, shiny, shimmery red lip gloss! Leather dresses and wet, red lips go hand-in-hand!
There is a time for lace, but there is a time for only leather!

Leather dresses not only state that the wearer is suave and highly confident, but they also make a silent statement that the wearer is fearless and fun! So, have some fun in your leather dress, and wear cool stockings to accent the rest of your body! Of course, bare legs ooze their own state of sexy!
Leather dresses not only accent your front side, but the hugging, noticeable material draws just as many eyes to your back side, as well!
In general, real leather is sold in four forms:
- Full-grain: Hides that have not been sanded or buffed.
- Top-grain: A layer of leather has been separated, making the leather thinner and more pliable.
- Corrected-grain: Leather that has had an artificial grain applied to its surface.
- Split: Leather created from the fibrous part of the hide that is left once the top-grain of the rawhide has been separated from the hide.

As someone who has loved fashion for my entire life, it is amazing to me how many times I write a blog post that brings back a memory. I remember a gorgeous, brown leather dress that I had when I was in high school, and how much I loved wearing that dress! Clothes can shape a mood as much as clothes shape your body!

Leather Not So Fun Fact: At different times in history, leather made from exotic skins have been considered desirable. For this reason, certain species of snakes and crocodiles have been hunted!
Leather Fashion Tip: Since there is something about leather dresses that come across as raw and sensual, when it comes to your eye makeup, I think that dramatic eyeliner and or a cool, smokey eye highlights the sassy statement of wearing leather exquisitely!
Work it in leather! The results will be well worth it!
