How Lucky Are Those Who Are Easily Amused!

I recently heard Nirvana’s song All Apologies on my car radio,  I love the line that says “I wish I was like you, easily amused!”  Whenever I hear that line, I always think how lucky people are that are easily amused. Some words that you can interchange with amused are laughing, pleased, tickled and entertained.  Who doesn’t want to experience these emotions, and when you can be lifted and thrilled over the simple things in life, well how fortunate are you!
I feel blessed that I am easily amused. I believe I am just built this way by nature, as I have a pretty positive disposition towards life. I still enjoy sitting in front of a good sitcom on TV eating an order of french fries and a diet soda!  And don’t get me started on diet soda.  Whether Coke or Pepsi, I love them both!  Nothing tastes as good to me as my first sip of the day of my diet soda, and I never tire of them! Now how is that for a cheap thrill?
I am not ashamed to say that I spoil myself. I do believe that it keeps me sane and happy, so no harm done. Everyday I do at least one thing that I enjoy with no guilt!  Basically, I amuse myself. It doesn’t need to be something expensive or outlandish, but it does need to be something that brings me joy. Even something as simple as driving in my car on a nice sunny day with some great tunes blaring from the radio. Sometimes when I have some fabulous music playing in my car, either by radio or CD, I will drive the long way to wherever I am going, and even drive a little too fast if the song encourages it and the traffic permits it! You’d be amazed at how good that feels!
I like to have fun! I enjoy funny, zany movies and I still laugh out loud at certain scenes in the movie “White Chicks” when they show the movie on cable. I even entertained myself as I wrote my first novel, A Passion for Prying. Although the characters basically wrote themselves, and even as the author many times the dialogue between characters was unknown to me until the characters spoke, there were times I actually laughed out loud at my own writing. How is that for being easily amused?  Certain dialogue in my second novel Murder Can Be Messy had me laughing as well.
We all have things happen in life and certain responsibilities that weigh us down and need to be dealt with. But on the upside, life is filled with numerous little thrills, if we can simply be content with being easily amused!
I think I’ll go pour me a diet soda, in a cool glass with lots of ice! Ahh, my taste buds are already amused!
