If you’ve seen the movie American Hustle, you probably had fun with the large hair, the vivid colors and the cool music (representing the late 1970s early 1980s). Fashion is always fun! A unique, admired item that made its way into mainstream fashion in the 1960s is the miniskirt. Today, in 2014, the miniskirt is here to stay!
The miniskirt always remains modern. With a hemline well above the knees, normally half-way up the thigh or higher, miniskirts and minidresses make a powerful fashion statement.

Miniskirt Fun Fact: A true miniskirt is  no longer than 4 inches, or 10 cms, below the buttocks. A micro-miniskirt has a hemline that stops at the upper thigh, just below crotch level.
The popularity of miniskirts spiked in the “Swinging London” of the 1960s, especially with teenagers and young adults. Before this time, miniskirts were generally only seen in sport and dance clothing.

Miniskirt Fun Fact: Stretch miniskirts and micro-miniskirts are often made of Spandex material or PVC, and are many times worn by daring divas, especially as clubwear. Stiletto pumps and great legs are a miniskirt’s best friends!

Miniskirt Fashion Tip: Over summer and warmer months, if you can get away with bare legs beneath your miniskirt, go for it. On cooler months, opaque stockings, even fishnets, rev your miniskirts up to steamy levels of glamour.
Miniskirt Fun Fact: The earliest known culture to have females wearing clothing resembling miniskirts were the Duan Qun Miao, which literally meant “short skirt Miao.”
